This Season’s Session Dates

Hello Tigers, I’m sorry for the long wait but the coaches all met last week and we’ve organised the calendar for 2017. I will update the calendar over the year, beginning with this term.

In the meantime, here are the key dates for your diary:

Saturday 18th February: First Stonehaven coaching session at Dunnottar Woods. (MTB)

Sat 1st April – 15th April: No sessions, school holidays. Watch website/facebook for any led rides.

Sat 22nd April: Stonehaven Sessions restart at Mackie/Mineralwell (TBC) Road/CX

Monday 24th April: Aberdeen sessions begin at Kingswells Park & Ride (TBC) Road

On another note, we are considering making some changes to the sessions and venues including a possible further progression for older children. Please keep your eyes open for the survey which will be emailed out shortly.

We look forward to seeing you (and the sun!) again soon.

Last tigers session of the season.

This Saturday (10th December) will be our last session for this term and for the year.

As is usual on the last day of the session this will be a race day and it would be good to have a good turnout to round off what has been a really good season.
We are meeting at the same place, The Quarry in Dunnottar Woods,  and at the usual time.
The forecast is looking promising – sunny intervals and 9C but a bit breezy (but should be sheltered in the woods).
Regards, Colin

Dirt Crit – Results

All at Grampian Tigers would like to say a big thanks to all that turned out for this year’s Dirt Crit at Knockburn Loch. We were really pleased to see so many children so eager to ride their bikes and participate in the races. This year’s event saw a record turnout with almost 90 riders!

Every year the Tigers team gather for a debrief after the event and discuss ways to improve for next year. As usual we have a few points already but we would welcome any feedback that you have on how we can make the day run more smoothly and give the riders and spectators the best possible experience. Please email us or comment via the website with any feedback you have and we’ll address it at our debrief.

In the meantime, here are the podium positions for each category. A huge well done to those that made it on the very special Tigers podium and also to those that gritted their teeth and fought hard to complete laps of the courses, many of which were longer and tougher than last year.

Last Aberdeen session of 2016

Next Monday (26 September) will be the last Aberdeen Tigers for this year.  This will be a race night.

As the light is getting a bit short can you please be there for 18.00 with a view to getting going 18.15 latest, finishing around 19.00 depending on light.

As it is a race night we would be looking for help to marshal/cheer on the kids/help as required so we hope that parents would be able to stay for the whole session and help out.

TIGERS DIRT CRIT 2016 @ Knockburn Loch

screenshot-2016-09-10-16-29-55It’s that time of year again when we are all getting geared up for the annual Tigers Dirt Crit at Knockburn Loch. We are busy wading through this years prizes, gathering race numbers and thinking up new and wonderful race routes.

This year’s event will be held on the 1st October and we’re all hoping that the weather is as beautiful as it was last year. The event details should be up on the British Cycling website very soon and a message will go out to all members as soon as it does.

We hope that there will be a good representation across the age groups from Tigers and, as always, the races are open to members of all other clubs as well as individuals who want to give it a go. Please register online as soon as you can. It gives us a better idea of numbers and stops those horrible butterflies in our bellies in the run up!

We are looking for people to help marshall the event and would really appreciate offers by any parents who are willing to watch the racing from trackside whilst wearing a high vis and picking up any riders who fail to keep it ‘rubber side down’. Please speak to one of the coaches at the sessions if you are able to help.

In the meantime, we’ll see you at the weekly coaching sessions where riders can hone their race skills and ensure they are in peak physical condition for the race 😉

Blairgowrie Highland Games

highland-track
Well done to all that represented Tigers on the grass track. Brilliant to see all the work that riders have put in up at Mackie being put into practice at the Highland Games. Jayson recounts the day below:
Good tigers showing for the Blairgowrie Highland games. Alexander, Lucy, Reubens and Calum all competing, with Al, Richard and myself having a go in the seniors.
A lush sunny morning led into some torrential rain making the track slow and boggy. Good riding was demonstrated by all just to stay up right.
The handicapping made for some exciting racing. Race one had Reubens, Calum and Lucy entering the final straight together and race two was like a two up pursuit. I had a shot at the senior event which was a lot more frenetic then I expected and I was a lot more unfit then I’d thought. I learnt some good coaching points though and fought into the prizes in the devil at least.

Tigers Sessions Restart

Hi Tigers,

I hope you’ve had a good Summer.

We are back up and running from this Saturday

Saturday is at Mackie – usual 11-15 sign-on & bike check for  11-30 start

On Monday evening we are at Foggieton Woods, 6:15 for 6:30 start.

Foggieton is at the upper end of Baillieswells Road, just down the hill from Counteswells where we were before the summer.  There were road closures around Blacktop recently so I’m not sure which directions you can approach it from.

Foggieton is a Forestry Commission wood – http://scotland.forestry.gov.uk/visit/foggieton
